Explorer Ventures is starting an operation from Mahahual, Mexico (south of Cancun). First trips are next week (Sept 2011). I would appreciate any reports on this operation.

Actually they just did a trip last week.

Looking forward to reading a trip report from Clay, EV's president.

In fact, I am going on the Oct. 8, trip. I am very excited! It was hard to pass up the discounts and the chance to dive this off-shore reef system on a liveaboard. Not to mention the very affordable airfares to Cancun.

Clay has posted a trip report on EV's facebook page.

I, too, signed up for 10/8 cruise. Sadly, it is canceled. Moondiver temporary permit not renewed.

temp permit not renewed ??? I've eyeing this trip Nov 2012 with a LDS, they're already taking deposits.....please don't tell me we're looking at permitting issue !

Are you planning to reschedule your Chinchorro Banks trip? If so, when?

I signed up for the Oct. 8, trip. I got a letter from EV explaining the reason for the cancellation. The Moondiver was already promised a permanent permit to operate in the Chinchorro Banks. However, this was just a verbal promise. Earlier trips were under weekly temporary permits. The authorities told Moondiver that the permanent permit will come out sometime mid-October. For that reason, Moondiver was no longer given weekly termporary permits for the October trips. But, knowing how things work in Mexico, EV did not want to take the risk so they decided to cancel the 2 October trips.

If you're eyeing this trip Nov. 2012, I won't worry about it yet.

...well, I was just having visions of Galapagos-style permitting issues......trying to avoid all that drama.

EV wouldn't let me switch from 10/8 to any November cruise. I accepted their offer of an October substitute cruise on another of their yachts and they made me whole on the air change fee. Not my preference, but better than staying dry!
