I just returned from the Saba, Statia, St Kitts trip on the Caribbean Explorer. It was a good trip. the crew was great, very helpful, professional and attentive. The food was good, the boat was clean and well run. The vis on most of the dive sites was moderate to low. St Kitts being the poorest. The whole week was very windy and a lot of chop so many of the dive sites were not diveable. That was unfortunate. For the 3 days that we spent on Saba we only dove 4 sites. We did 3 sites out of 5 dives on Statia and 3 sites for 5 dives on St Kitts.

We did see quite a few reef sharks, several nurse sharks and in Statia a fair amount of large rays. I was a little dissapointed in the lack of over all fish life on this trip, I had expected much more in that respect just because of the fact that the Saba and Statia are marine reserves. The fish life on Utila and Bonaire are much much more abundant.

The only real complaint that I had about this trip was the size of the cabins on the boat. This was not my first liveaboard, I do know that space is limited however, our cabin was so small that it was really not acceptable for two people. I did see some of the other cabins and they were a bit bigger, it could be because our cabin was next to the stairs to the lower deck and they had to make up the space somewhere.

All in all a fun trip. Watch out for the cab drivers on St Kitts - they seem to charge based on how much they think they can get you to pay rather than a set rate for a trip. The ride to the airport from the boat was a different price for everyone that I talked to.

we were onboard last year and found the A/C was out of control you could hang mest in our room. Everyone seemed to have the same issue too. Diving was good, and we did have some low vis, but like it was said, it rains some there. Don't miss St martin. go to the airport buy a peer and watch the 747 landing. It is a once in a lifetime experience as far as I was concerened. My wife was cool on the idea until she started seeing some of the other flight coming in, then when that 74 came lumbering in just feet above out heads, she became a believer. Great beaches there as well. we had a great time even with some issues we mentioned in another post, it was a great trip all in all bring a coat though you'll need it for the rooms. We ended up using a trash bag to cover up the vent so we could sleep. WAY too cold, especially after you get out of the water and go to your room.
