My trip to Wilmington, N.C. to hunt for Meg teeth was called due to weather, the call for Hatteras was similar so that was a no-go also. So I called Lynnhaven & much to my surprise they were still trying to get a boat out for this dive. They had 3 on the list, but needed 8.
I got on the list & my wife decided to go (she does not dive here) much to my surprise, but she is a good diver & I enjoy diving with her. I then got on the VBtech list & asked for some of the hardcore divers to get on this trip. By the time I got to Lynnhaven to officially put Trina on the list we had our needed #s.
The day was looking pretty rough with 10-15 mph winds with gusts way over 20, but everyone wanted this trip to go so we went.
The #s for the plane didn't pan out & after several runs over them it was off to plan 2 & to the Gulf Hustler, a 65ft Trawler in 80 fsw, but Mother Nature was playing with us & the crew trying to hook it, obviously with a strong current pushing the hook off course.
The sea conditions were pretty bad & most on the boat were looking green, heck I normally don't have any problem, but wasn't feeling my best. But no one got sick.
We decided to try & hook the Tiger on the way in, they hooked it pretty easily, but since we could see Va. Beach from this site I knew vis would be limited, surprised by the DMs reported 15ft vis.
Trina & I were the 1st in & I find out on the hang bar that my dryglove repair was not holding in the 50 degree water, but I was diving period. So down we went.
The Tiger is a debris field & the current was decent, plus the vis might have been 10ft, probably a little less so it was reel time.
For those that haven't been diving in Va. Beach a wreck reel is typically mandatory to having a good, enjoyable, safe dive.
We had a good dive & managed to run most of the line off & do some exploring. Saw a few Sheepshead, & Seabass, but not much else. Turned the dive at 22minutes since I told the crew we would only do a 30-35 minute dive. We were back on the boat at 40 minutes.
After a short SI (we had 36% & in 50fsw our nitrogen intake was minimal) with a couple of Lindsey dogs in my belly I was ready to go again.
My glove still leaking, hmm it didn't magically seal itself, but I wanted to go diving so I did, we went into a different direction, still into the current. we did see some small Starfish & a decent size Conch shell & much to my surprise it was still occupied. After 20 minutes my arm was wet to the elbow so I turned the dive. Once again a 35 minute BT dive, but diving with my wife & favorite buddy in Va. Beach no less made my day.
Trina did very well in less than ideal conditions. She has very little experience in her TLS-350, probably less than 20 dives, but she dives it like she was born with it, she says she is not totally comfortable yet, but she looks good.
The sea had laid down pretty well & we had a nice, short run back to the dock.
