Ask around to buy a broken 7070 housing. Somebody may have a suitable junker sitting in their closet.
Those housings are basically "disposable". If broken, they aren't generally worth the money to fix (kind of like a basic DVD player) unless they're the hot/must have newest version.
I like having access to the mode dial. It allows you to also make movies, or change between A/S/M modes. Sometimes I want to just choose the shutter speed and let the camera do the rest.
