My partner and I are planning on diving Ningaloo Reef in Mid June. Does anyone have some advice? Dive centers? Dive sites?
We have heard that there are a lot of cancellations during whale shark season but don't know if that is true of just the reviews from a few very vocal people. We don't have a ton of time and want to spend it on the water.
Thx

Hi, I had comments on here about cancellations. But i was just stating my experience - which was terrible but also for the most part unfortunate. I would go with Exmouth Diving Centre - great staff. I doubt you would have cancellations in June - its peak season. Also really recommend diving Navy Pier. Incredible. I think is only avail through Ningaloo Dreaming. However ningaloo dreaming were not great, so I would not recommend other dives through them go with Exmouth Diving.

I also stayed in Coral Bay - absolutely beautiful spot. You just snorkel right off the beach and see turtles, rays, sharks etc. Can do manta ray snorkelling tours too. I didn't actually dive in Coral bay so can't provide any feedback on that.

Also form Exmouth take a day trip out to Turqouise Bay, incredible snorkelling, in fact was better than some of the diving. And obviously make sure you do whale shark trip - i loved it (again EDC).

Thanks for the great information. Your views are very much appreciated especially since they are not overly emotional rants or gushy praise. It promises to be a fabulous trip

I think one of my posts may have been a little on the emotional side... HOwever you will love it over there. Coral Bay became one of my favourite spots in Aust. after being there for a whole 10 mins. Magic - enjoy!

be careful on accomm in Exmouth too. happy to give some tips.

Thx. I'll pm you for accommodation tips. Talked to Kristin at EDC - they sound great and are putting a package together for me.

Great - just don't forget Navy pier!! One of the best dives going around.

I would concentrate on Coral Bay. Nice small dive op friendly, helpful, as enthusiatic about the marine life as the paying customers! Not over controlling and regimented. Prices reasonable. Between the 2 dive sites spent over an hour with a pod of humpbacks, saw dugongs, and tiger shark between dive sites as well. Exmouth on the other hand is over priced, regimented, controlling DM's just pretty awful. Navy pier is good but the saga kind of spoils it. 2 hour brief in a classroom, followed by much passport checking, crowded dive site, sargeant major dm just over the top, oh I forgot 4 typed pages of waivers and releases etc to sign. Almost guarateed a raggy (grey nurse in Oz). Having dived Aliwal Shoal at night and day, have seen "schools" of raggy's, so the one that we returned to 3 times on the dive was so so. For a shore entry dive own gear and rental tank $170.00. Unfortunately you can only do Navy Pier with Ningaloo Dreaming. I asked about a dive and snorkel with whale sharks trip 1 dive plus snorkel $430.00 per person!! (ie close to $1500.00 for a family of 4, just giggled hysterically when they confirmed this was the going rate) I found Exmouth over priced and overhyped. Coral Bay was just magic, only 1 dive shop can't miss it.

Thanks guys for the update - Talked to one of the guys at Coral Bay - sure sounds like a place I could call home
