Terry:
Unfortunately and contrarily, Wurkkos is not known to many as a “professional” dive light manufacturer. Without being insulting and trying to remain factual, it simply makes inexpensive dive lights and fails to differentiate itself from a host of other Shenzhen manufacturers. There is a void in the marketplace for a higher-quality handheld light described below, since it does not exist, but is sought after:
Accepts three or ideally, four user-replaceable (in the field) 21700 lithium-ion batteries that do not use any removable plastic housing into which the batteries “snap;”
Batteries are inserted directly into the flashlight body, with no wires or flimsy connectors that are exposed to the user or environment when replacing the batteries directly into that flashlight body;
Magnetic charging has a port on the body that does not require removal or unscrewing of a cap or body component or disturbing any o-ring (see, e.g., Dive Rite CX3);
Uses an XHP 70.2 or XHP 70.3 emitter;
Has a smooth reflector with zero “orange peel,” yielding a 5-degree beam without excessive spill but still has a nice periphery to its hot, white corona. Unfortunately, the super-bright XHP 70.2 has some discoloration of rings around its corona, so the XHP 70.3 may work better, although the XHP 70.2 is excellent and may be better for underwater lighting purposes;
Head is ideally the same diameter as the body or alternatively, is not much wider;
¼ inch screw hole on the body’s bottom exists (to accept a Goodman handle or other standard mount);
Has no strobe function but has four levels of illumination;
After five seconds of undisturbed activation, one press to the turning/locking magnetic switch on its body turns it off rather than cycling through all four levels of illumination;
With less than five seconds of undisturbed activation, presses will cycle through the four levels of illumination;
The locking mechanism for the magnetic switch is hardware-based and not software-based. See, e.g., Xtar D28 3600 and Xtar D26 2500; and
Is depth-tested to 150 meters.
Have Wurkkos create that light and it will become a “professional” dive light manufacturer overnight. Divers who recognize quality, performance, features, and value will buy it, and it need not be the cheapest light in its competitor group, since as of now, there is no competitor which has brought such a usable product to the marketplace. Thank you.
