Their back........! Went out with my first OW class yesterday as a DM candidate, whew..... I didn't know just how much work it really was. My muscles hurt in places I didn't even know I had....lol... I have a brand new higher level of respect for DM's and Instructors now.

Anyways, we did our dives in WPB, went to South Breakers and Bath & Tennis, somewhere I must have run into those nasty little things. I was much luckier this time,(last year they sent me right into the dr.'s office after being covered with them) I only have 4 welps (so far). I was wondering if anyone else has run into them yet? Also, do you think a hood would prevent them from zapping me?

I have isolated stings, probably 6 over the last two weeks. The best way to prevent stings is actually to dive naked. Let me know if you need a buddy. For real, Sea Lice are the lavra of the Thimble Jelly. Generally the stings occur in the folds of the skin or the around edges of your wetsuit. They get squashed and fire off their nematocists. So, wearing a hood would move the sting line from your neck to your face. Safe Sea is a preventive lotion that seems to help about 80% of the people I see on our boat.

but ... but ... if you dive naked, wouldn't you just be giving them the best (or worst)
folds to explode at?

no THANKS!

Might have gotten my rash from something like this over the shallow "wreck" of the sugar barge out in Bradenton. I got a rash both times i have dived there, along the neckline. As for would i prefer it on my face rather than neck, i dont know, probably not, acne look rather than hickie look - which is better, maybe i should start a poll ;)

It's mostly from being trapped in between clothing/wetsuit and skin, not so much from the skin folds. C'mon man! Quit squashing the Dive Naked movement! You do need to be more careful about dragging hoses across the reef though. Remember keep 'em clipped off, or maybe wrap them three times around your neck!

You forgot the retractor for such things and 3x round the neck is a choking hazard, under the right arm, across the chest and round the back of your head is reasonable routing. ;)

LOL
Or act like a gas pump and stick em in your ear... ;)

ok, its been a few hours since I found the first spots and now I'm getting more.... (cries) I even have one on my lip (right next to my chin!! ) I'm itchy, red, and puffy... If diving naked will prevent this, I might have to refer back to the PADI Instructor Manual and see what the guidelines they have on the matter.... :) I'm back out again in WPB on Thursday AM. I'd really like to not have anymore of this nastiness...

I used that sea lice stuff in the blue bottle last summer, I think that stuff was like happy hour for those intolerable little creatures. Has anyone had anything else work? (besides being a nudy of course)

I would only take the course if the instructor is a hot chick! ;)

Sorry to hear the syptoms are persisting. With most of my rashes either from this kind of stuff, or eczema like dry skin, i use a water-based moisturizer, my skin gets worse using something with melamine/melanine (sp?) in it - allergic to. Or i use the sting medicines that usually neutralize it - have you tried peeing on it??? ;)

:11: um, can't say that I have..... I'm thinking peeing on my face and neck could be quite a challange..
