I just ordered an Equinox HD6 housing for my Canon HF20 and am trying to figure out the best way to travel with it. Equinox sells a Pelican 1610 case, which is huge and has wheels and a telescoping handle on it. Definitely not carry-on compliant. I don't really want to be checking my $2500 rig for long international flights with multiple plane changes.

The Light & Motion Bluefin I used earlier this year came in a smaller Pelican that easily fit in the overboard compartments of planes, though it didn't have the wheels, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone can share opinions and experiences about traveling with the Equinox. Are there any other Pelican case options that will fit this housing and also be carry-on size?

Thanks in advance!

I use an old 2 compartment Hakuba backpack. Its similar to this one: PSPB40 Hakuba PSBP-40 Two Compartment Large Backpack for Cameras The housing fits in the bottom and in the top I put the camera and accessories. The pack fits in the overhead of a plane.

I've also carried mine in a standard size carry-on roller bag. I packed it with clothes to pad it and it did fine.

Pelican cases are nice but they add a lot of weight and bulk. If you're going to check your stuff they're a great way to go. Also, if you go the Pelican route and you're traveling domestically, get a starter pistol and declare a firearm. That way you can lock your case.

i use this or something like this for my hd6. cant find the right picture but its similar. Everything for my HD6 goes inside housing, camera, lens, charger, accesories, etc.

ps: i highly recommend you to buy the HD wide angle lens for your camera. Here is a test i`ve made with 2 wide angle lens :)

Thank you for the ideas. The padded backpacks are a great idea. I've been so focused on a
Pelican case options that I've overlooked some good choices. Do those packs require you to remove the base and wings from the HD6 to fit it in?
