I went to the local YMCA pool today just for the heck of it and was able to go to the 8' botton with no problem and did a Valsalva.

I don't know what that proves but so far, so good.

For most it's not that hard and doing it ahead of scuba in the pool is the way to focus on doing it safely. If you can manage the dive to 8" it's just keeping up with smaller % changes as you go down with scuba or on deper skin-dives. Were you feeling the pressure at 8"? Your first equalization attempt besides the surface may want to be even shallower. On every breath for a direct scuba drop is a good starting method.

Observing my technique I can feel that I have learned how to ramp the pressure up gently and relax just as equalization occurs. Same with the pinch, I don't need to get my shnozz in a death grip. No extra stress either way.

I was starting to feel the pressure at 8'.

I will follow your tips.

Thanks,
