It's that time of year again. Drag out your logbooks and tally the numbers!

How many dives did you do this year?
85
(weather permitting, will get two more in)

How many hours total bottom time?
98 hrs. +

Favorite dive?
Hmmm.. Had to be the weekend during the INVASION in the Keys

Lesson learned?
Learned a lot this year, starting with my Rescue class in Feb. For the type of diving I do, we are pretty lax. I am learning to be more alert and pay attention to my surroundings. Also, because of my last dive, a destination that I have done a dozens of dives this year alone, I got turned around and my underwater navigation skills were questioned. Need to work on that better, especially in new environments.

Take Classes, or continue education?
Took Rescue. And started my DM, kinda.. but that's a different story. :D

Additional comments?
Big learning year for me. I dived a lot more than normal and had a lot of different buddies. I learned alot from my buddies. And the newbies. Loved taking a newbie on the reef for the first time.

How many dives did you do this year?
60 in my first year as a diver; From #1 in February to #60 on Dec 10

How many hours total bottom time?
2,865 minutes (47.8hrs, deepest to 110ft, average 68ft)

Favorite dive?
All of them, though Kona, Lanai and Molokini were particularly memorable.

Lesson learned?
Don't start diving unless you have more money and free time than good sense!

Take Classes, or continue education?
OW, AOW, PBB, Dry Suit, Boat Diver, Wreck Diver, Rescue, EFR and started my DM

Additional comments?
A year ago I didn't even know there was such a thing as a $1,000 flashlight, much less that I needed one. (OK, so I needed two in case one cr@apped out.)

How many dives did you do this year?
Looks like 90. Was going to try to push to break 100, but I've been sick for the past three weeks.

How many hours total bottom time?
4687 mins (78 hrs) plus the last 8 dives i haven't logged (probably around 360 mins).

Favorite dive?
Grand Cenote in Akumal, Mexico.

Lesson learned?
Was involved in trying to rescue a diver who never recovered. The lessons around that were the big ones.

Take Classes, or continue education?
It was the year of the workshops and mentoring. Wreck workshop, DPV workshop, Deco/Stage bottle workshop. Adding all kinds of complexity (and comfort) into diving at the limits of recreational profiles.

Additional comments?
Bumped my deepest dive up from 116 fsw (Dec 04) to 122 fsw (May-Oct 06). Bumped my longest dive up from 81 mins to 110 mins. Tech 1 is in Feb.

How many dives did you do this year?
I just got certified at the end of April... 46 dives... plus doing one New Year's Eve and one or two New Year's Day.

How many hours total bottom time?
1465 min... I think that's around 24 hours. Most in 45* water so didn't stay down really long. I wasn't dry suit certified until the end of November.

Favorite dive?
Palancar Gardens: Cozumel, Mexico. Awesome!!!

Lesson learned?
As I just got certified this year... I learned a lot! LOL!

And on a lighter note... things I learned while diving with my parents... (Mom, Dad, husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law and myself are all certified)

1. To get a better SAC rate, breathe off your buddy's secondary. :D
2. Eating onion rings before diving can lead to difficulties equalizing. :D
(Yes, there are stories behind these... but that's for another post...)

Take Classes, or continue education?
Beside getting my Open Water in April, I've taken classes in Night/Limited Visability and Dry Suit. I'm taking another class soon, but it obviously won't be until 2007.

Additional comments?
I never saw myself as being a diver, and now, I can't see myself ever NOT being a diver. No one ever warned me how addictive it is!:D

How many dives did you do this year?
80something. 2 more tomorrow (HMS Cape Breton & Sakatchewan :D)

How many hours total bottom time?
50+hrs.

Favorite dive?
I'm not really sure. I've had a number of great dives. My first dive where I spotted a Grunt sculpin & my first dogfish encounter stand out :)

Lesson learned?
That's a big one. I think the fact that with a good buddy you'll have a good dive no matter what. That and I don't like fighting current :eyebrow:

Take Classes, or continue education?
Rescue & nitrox this year. But many thing I've learned just from diving with folks (sometimes what not to do). I even learned a bunch of stuff off the internet (don't tell PADI ;) )

Additional comments?
This was my first full year diving. I think I'm learning more about what I enjoy underwater. Diving with someone who has similar attitudes is becoming more important to me.

How many dives did you do this year?
87

How many hours total bottom time?
200 hours or so, not counting time spent on deco.

Favourite dive?
My first good dive in one of the local caves.

Lesson learnt?
Take nothing for granted. I had more equipment fail, in harsher environments this year than in all of my other dives combined. I learnt the true value of being able to self rescue, prioritize and think though problems in truly horrendous places. The value of being able to tear down a box you have created for your self to facilitate diving in places the box doesn't work.

Take Classes, or continue education?
Nothing formal. Taught my self how to sidemount with a few pointers from various people.

Additional comments?
You can actually get some good dive time in with a newborn in the house, so long as you have an understanding wife. :)

How many dives did you do this year?
About 180 -- I've been lax about logging the last couple of weeks.

How many hours total bottom time?

I stopped counting that a while back, but the average dive is an hour.

Favorite dive?
The checkout dive where I passed Fundies.

Lesson learned?

I think there were two big lessons for me this year: One was how little we think about the "what ifs" when we're diving, and whether we are really prepared for even the little things that could go wrong at deeper depths. The other was how much finding a really compatible dive buddy adds to your enjoyment of diving, and how much WORKING with that person to build skills and communication makes that partnership even better.

Take Classes, or continue education?
Classes were Rescue, which was excellent, and 5thD-X's Rec 2, which was also superb. I also did a wreck workshop through 5th Dimension here in town, which was fantastic and a ton of fun. In addition, there were skills dives at pretty regular intervals throughout the year, to work on the things that came out of the classes.

Additional comments?
The best things about this year were the variety of diving experiences I got to have, with exposure to all kinds of conditions from rolling in surf to being caught in updrafts on walls, and the group of wonderful dive buddies I've developed over the last twelve months: Thank you to NWGratefulDiver, DoubleDip, rjack321, dsteding, lundysd and GeeGee for making it possible for me to get in the water almost as often as I'd like . . .

How many dives did you do this year?
118 + 2 coming on Sunday (but I don't log all my dives)

How many hours total bottom time?
85 +

Favorite dive?
This is hard......Back wall of Molokini.........Horseshoe Reef(sharks rock)

Lesson learned?
Boats cost much more to maintain in salt water..........

Take Classes, or continue education?
Advanced Nitrox, Intro to Deco, wreck....

Additional comments?
always learning something new, always watching the way others do their thing....
It's great to have buddies that are great divers, it helps you be a better diver.
To those buddies, a big THANKS FOR THE DIVES GUYS!

[...snip... ...looks like my previous post went through before my dsl line crashed...]
