Hi. Heading to Malta next week. Thinking of taking my cylinders with me as I’m struggling to find what I want to hire there. Does anyone know if Emirates need to have the valves removed? The website just says emptied.

Many thanks

Steve

Would suggest you check the website of your national air transportation authority. In the US, tanks must be emptied AND valves removed.

removed. Not relevant to OP

It will be cheaper to buy tanks in Malta than shipping them via Emirates. I can't imagine they don't have Tanks to rent there. What tanks are you looking to use there?

So my family of 4 have 25 kgs each so baggage isn’t an issue. Emirates website says diving cylinders are fine as long as they’re empty but I was hoping someone had done this recently as when I flew from the uk with them, the valves did have to be removed.

I dive Sidemount with 7l 300 bar steels which aren’t wise available. I don’t want to use alis.

as when I flew from the uk with them, the valves did have to be removed.

I'd do the same in this trip.

Sorry, I think I’m not being very clear. I flew with my cylinders from the uk to Cyprus with EasyJet and BA. They asked for valves to be removed. I paid for excess baggage which was around 80 pounds. I’m flying from Cyprus To Malta with Emirates and their online policy says cylinders need to be empty but can go as baggage so they won’t cost anything extra. I’m not sure why anyone thinks it would be cheaper to buy cylinders in Malta than fly with them.

I was hoping someone had traveled with emirates recently with their cylinders who can clarify if they had to remove their valves.

Thanks for the replies, apologies if I haven’t been clear.

Steve

I wouldn't leave valves on even if they allow it. One never knows if the valves get banged while on the tank damaging them.

Yes I think that’s definitely a concern. Not sure I want to go through the hassle of reassembling at the other end either
