Email is a great thing in that it makes communication for me much easier, but there are a few things that totally irritated me about people who use email and how rude they can be.

Example: I'm in college and active in several groups and was recently asked to be apart of an opening for the new library the college has been building. I was asked if I would like to be a part of this via email. This same email was sent to a fair number of people. In my reply I sent it to the sender only and thought nothing much of it, well this morning I go to check my email and I have 100+ replies to this email (mainly from one person) for which the other people on the list got the same useless email(s). To me this is plain rude as it just eats up storage and bandwidth on servers and fills my inbox with needless emails that I have no interest in and that keep me from getting to the email I really need to view.

Really people it doesn’t take any longer to click reply to sender then to everyone.

Is there any decency left anymore, really people take the extra second and use the gray matter in-between the ears.

I was, just yesterday, subjected to a total of 33 "reply to all" messages on a mass mailing I have no idea how I even got on. I responded to the original sender with a suggestion that, in the future, a BCC mailing might preferable. Especially since after a while the preponderance of e-mails simply say "Please remove me from this list".

No, I'm far from an English teacher. I apologize if I took a cheap shot, but your post is much easier to read now...

So true, so true.

Is is funny that this topic is brought up.... I actually have to be careful when reading emails from employees because I have been known to be offended by some emails when it was not intentional. Actually had a manager counsel one of their employees because the employee sent me a message in all capital letters. I took it as being yelled at and informed their immediate manager to discipline the employee. Now the City Managers require their employees to send them the email so they can proof read before sending to me...

Seems to me a better solution would be to require employees to be able to write correctly

Communication, especially written, seems to be an uphill battle and it is why I feel I have to work on my holidays/vacations - I want it done right.

Oh ... now that could be another Whine and Cheeze topic altogether. It's amazing to me how many well-educated people have forgotten even the basics of the written language.

I once worked for a V.P. who asked me to proofread e-mails from his customer support staff before they got sent ... mainly because a couple of them were so bad with their spelling and grammar that customers had trouble figuring out what they were trying to say. These were, for the most part, EE's ... some with advanced degrees ... who couldn't spell worth a damn (and English WAS their first language). At times, reading their stuff was rather entertaining. Especially amusing was when they spelled the word correctly ... but it was the wrong word ...
