Hey, I'm Ben, I was certified about 4 years ago, but only did diving while I was staying on hamilton island which was great btw

I recently went diving again in the great barrier reef, was awemazing.

So, I've decided I really want to do this more often.

I live in Sydney, Australia, don't have many dives under my belt (umm about 6 at this point hehe) only have fins, snorkle, goggles and booties, wanting to get the wet suit, then the reg and so on.

SO, just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Looking forward to reading as much as I can and getting to know people

Cold ??

This is a winter shot of course but right now it is as warm as it ever gets at about 68 degrees on the surface with thermoclines that can take you down in the the 50's easily. This at only a resonable depth. AND, the exciting marine life we get:

Not too exciting eh? For these reasons, I still envy your diving

Point taken though, how cold was the water on that dive?

It was 37 degrees. I and the photographer were diving wet so it was pretty darn cold. We lasted about 25 minutes underwater. At the point that this picture was taken, we had already had one freeflow, then two more once we got in the water.....my reg was the only one that did not freeflow on this dive. We finally got to do the dive and it was great (even though cold). The worst part was changing out of the cold suit in the even colder weather outside.

I'd read a lot about free flow with a reg, I had no idea it could happen while out of the water.

hehehe having to change, that would have killed me and that is some cold water, its about 2.7c only a couple of degrees above freezing.

What possessed you to dive in that?

It helps keep things real as well as it breaks up the winter. It only happens once or twice in a year but it is a great tradition.
