I might say she's "mature," not elderly, but who knows what the original Russian story said? She's a tough old lady to endure this 24-hour drift.

Most Russian-language versions say "retiree" -- retirement age in Russia is 60 for women. Your original link is to Pravda so "elderly" is exactly what the Russian story said in English.

There's nothing about her gear that I can find.
