Thanks to all for your feedback. Turns out El Cid is booked over Labor Day so I will be staying at the Villablanca which looks pretty good and is very reasonably priced.

Anyone been there?

I was there in Feb. We got a great deal for an "oceanview superior" room through Expedia. Room was big, king bed, big bathroom (hot water and decent shower), full size fridge, a micro, coffee maker, dining table. Rooms look like they are back in the late 70's/early 80's Mexico but ours was clean, functional and the a/c and hot water worked. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast onsite was way too slow. Hogtown Cafe next door was great for post-dive lunch or snack and their early happy hours were good too. Hogtown opens for breakfast at 6:30.

From what I've heard from others it really does matter at Villablanca which rooms you get. Second floor from the middle (about between the pool and jacuzzi, right over the enterance to get to the 2nd floor) on toward the street seem to be the best. Some have the fridge and table and some have a sitting area. We were happy with the mini-kitchen since we got our own breakfast stuff, drinks and snacks.
