Has anyone stayed in one of the El Cantil studios (7N-B or 7N-C)??? Or had a good look at them? I've read the review from those that have stayed in the multi-roomed condos - which all sound great, but we're looking at possibly booking one of these 2 studios since we don't need the whole kitchen set-up & stuff. Hoping for some info & insight from someone that has stayed in or toured one .... size, view, are they under the restaurant? and any noise issues?, etc.....

Unless it's for the location, pool, etc., the studios aren't worth it. It's a lock-off bedroom of a condo unit and you won't have an ocean view. An ocean view room at Casa Mexicana will be more spacious and give you a view.

Last year I wanted a one-bedroom condo but it wasn't available. They gave me a 2bdrm full condo for the same price as the 1 bdrm. The 2nd room was supposed to be locked off but never was. We didn't use the bedroom it but did like having a second full bathroom.

Overall I felt like I was paying for the location and view, both of which were great. The unit we had would not have been worth the full price charged for it.

Thanks - one of the 2 studios actually does have 2 balconies and lists an ocean view on one of them, the other has 1 balcony and lists a city view. (So if we book, we'll shoot for the one with 2 balconies.) We stayed at Casa Mexicana last trip, and it was fine, but I like having access to the water, even if it's just sitting in a deck chair relaxing.

We had planned on the package deal at Caribe Blu/Blue Angel, but I have messed up my back pretty bad, so I may be looking for a bit more individual care that I can get from Scuba with Alison (besides I want to check out her new boat!!!) Caribe Blu without the package deal isn't that good, which is why we were looking in town - but on the water ....

Was the extra bedroom very tiny? We don't need a lot of space if the outdoors areas are nice. Inside we're happy with a fridge & a microwave that the studios list(which Casa Mexicana didn't have.)

The bedrooms are a nice size in the 2bdrm units. The "studio" that I saw was a lock-off of a 3bdrm unit and honestly, most hotel rooms I've had in Cozumel were significantly larger. This really was just a bedroom and bathroom.

Carefully with the description of 2 balconies and an ocean view. The studios need to have an outside door for access so you aren't going through the condo unit. I'm thinking that the 2nd balcony with a view is actually on the corner and not actually full ocean.

The pool are is very nice. But, if I didn't have a full oceanview and was just renting a studio room, I'm not so sure it's actually worth the price.

Expedia and Travelocity had some great Cozumel hotel deals for Oct-Dec. And Travelnotes (www.travelnotes.cc) gets reasonable rates for Caribe Blu.

The studios are literally nothing more than a hotel room, but of course with the amenities of the pool and dock, etc. "Studio Verde" is on the street side and has no view of the water. "Studio Azul" has a side view fro a tiny balcony.

Maybe MoodieJeff will see this and chime in. He stayed in both of them...started in one and then moved to the other.

I love El Cantil and am a big cheerleader for them, but I would personally prefer a room at Caribe Blu or Casa Mexicana over one of the two studios. One bedroom or larger, El Cantil is the best place to stay on the island if in your budget, IMO. :)

Thanks Guys!! The input really helps! Thought this might be a reasonable compromise to my water addiction and his for wandering around town ... but I can't see blowing the budget on a 1 bedroom @ $1300/wk. I guess the size of the studio explains the huge price difference between the two.

Casa Mexicana was nice, but just too much of a hotel for me ... so it may be back to Caribe Blu after all!!

Yeah, I'll chime in... wait, I guess I don't have to. Christi just covered it :)

I very much like the bigger condos at El Cantil but the studios are just not worth it. The "Ocean View" is very misleading... yes, you can see the ocean, but you have to be on the very small balcony to see it. We had the studio for a few days after the rest of our group left. It was fine for a few days but I would have been pretty disappointed if we were in it all week. It's pretty small, smaller than Casa Mexicana rooms.

Seriously, stay at Caribe Blu.

For whatever its worth, I got a 1 Bedroom, OV at Casa Mex thru Expedia for $115/night TOTAL ( taxes included). The City View were even cheaper. This for a mid September stay.
I also looked at Mi Casa en Coz, which was also in town, and was considerably less expensive than Casa Mexicana. Have not stayed in either yet, but it does seem like you can do better than $1300 a week and still be at Casa Mexicana. DD

Thanks for the user opinion Jeff!! Unless I hit the lotto, I think El Cantil is off my list!! :eyebrow:

Donn - I've stayed at Casa Mexicana way cheaper (got a steal of deal last trip and paid less than $50 a night - room 407 has a partial OV but overlooks the courtyard) but was looking for something either on the water, or with real water in town - you can just about wash you feet in the CM pool ... I think I will stick with my favorite place - Caribe Blu - even though it's not in town ... at least I can hear the sounds of the waves, and watch the sunset ...
