Hi guys,

First post here. I'm new to diving and am ready to jump in to UW photography as well.

I have a 60D and was considering a EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM lens as my main wide angle lens underwater. I was thinking of paring this with an 8 inch dome from ikelite.

Does anybody know if this will be a good combination? Other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Get the Tokina 10-17. The 24 is not terribly wide (84 degrees on land) and the close focus is like 10 inches.

84 degree is probably diagonal view on a Full frame camera.

If we compare horizontal angle of view, 24mm is 73 degree on full frame camera (5D, 1Ds, 1Dx). On 60D, it is only 50 degree in horizontal direction. As far as I understand, underwater, you don't need very large aperture. The key is NOT to get ambient light, but rather from yoru strobe. You don't need f/1.4 kind of aperture.

If you want to spend almost the same amount of money as the 24L you could go for the 8-15L FE :)
But I agree the Tokina 10-17 is great.

What lenses are you using on land for your 60d?

+2 for the Tokina 10-17mm.. - Scott
