I just thought I'd post this in case someone runs across a similar scam. I bid on two Mako scooters and was outbid. I got an official looking ebay screen telling me that I was a second chance bid winner, the original winner had problems with his daughter and couldn't pay. I was instructed to wait for ebay to contact me and not do any deals outside of ebay with the seller. A few days later the seller asked for my ebay buyer ID and address in order for ebay to process the transaction. I smelt a rat but decided to play along. Two days later he informed me that because the deal fell through with the first buyer he would pick up shipping, about $200. Wow, what a deal. A few days later he contacted me and asked if ebay had contacted me. He said they should have already contacted me and that he would check.

What do you know, the next day the attachment was in my email box. I had to laugh, only Western Union money transfer. Don't tell Wester Union it's for an ebay purchase and he'd split the cost of the money transfer, what a guy.

Keep a tight grip on your wallets folks

For what it's worth.... Second Chance offers will come from 2ndchanceoffer@ebay.com, and will give you an ebay link to the actual auction that was submitted when they gave you a second chance. Everything goes through ebay as a normal transaction, with you going to the second chance offer page that contains a buy-it-now option for the price of the second chance offer.

I have a second chance offer e-mail that is legit that I can take a screen grab and post if anyone is interested.

It does -not- come like you show... that is the seller sending a message to the buyer, and is definately circumventing ebay.

Yeah, the disclaimer at the top says not to conduct the buying like that, i have also done second chance purchases on e-bay. Spectre I think you should post that second chance screen capture for others to see. Dennis I hope you get your money back, I feel bad for you. But I must say for other people that just being careful to follow e-bay policies is a good thing, buying this way, you can't even leave negative feedback.

Thanks for the codolences but I didn't send the guy any money. I'm still playing, "Why can't I use Pay Pal?" "But the ebay thing says not to use Western Union" etc etc

He wants that money so bad he can taste it

forward his e-mail to ebay, that he is trying to do business fraudulently, trying to sell outside of ebay on an ebay listing when someone found the item through e-bay is grounds for punishment from ebay for him

Ebay has been in on it from the beginning. They get a copy of everything. They will not discuss what they are doing.
