[I posted a similar note two days ago to the still photography subforum.]
I think the Hero 4 is not just a nice video camera, but perhaps also the easiest way to take snap-shot quality still pictures (By "easy" I mean easy underwater. There is post processing above water.)
The trick is set the camera to max ISO 6400, Protune/Flat, and resolution 2.7K (or 4K). Shooting video allows one to "set" the shutter at 1/30th of a second (or 1/24th or 1/15th). The QuikCapture feature let's one go from stopped to shooting video in one button push (and then to stopped again in another).
When I get home, I use GoPro's free GoPro Studio software to pick frames and color correct.
