Hi Docs,

My brother-in-law (who is a diver) asked me a question tonite which I thought best to pass on to you.

He wakes up every morning and his ears are plugged up. After he clears them by holding his nose and blowing, he is clear for the rest of the day. This only happens in the summer time.

1. He is a very new diver and is worried about this being an issue while on a dive vacation coming up. Is this something that normal clearing of the ears might take care of?

2. Could this be an allergy of some type as it only happens in the summer time? If so, will allergy medication clear up his problem?

I understand that you don't have him in front of you, but your input would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

... I'm not a doctor, but I thought maybe my input would help anyway..

I had the same problem at the beginning of this summer. I could easily clear my ears, but they were still plugged every morning. I consulted my doctor, and he said he thought it might be allergies. After taking medicine for about two weeks, the problem cleared. Not saying that this is for sure his problem, but its just a suggestion.....:)

What medication were you taking?

My wife has a similar problem, and medicine has not yet been successful in clearing her eustacian tubes....

... Zyrtec.(sp?) It seems to have helped so far. :)

Kayla:)

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

.... but like I said, I'm not a doctor... I can't be certain that this is the same thing.... :)

Of course. You never know what may work!
