My over-night,non-stop flight from LAX arrives at CUN around dawn. But the earliest ADO bus to PDC doesn't leave until 8:30 AM. I would rather not have a 2 1/2 hour airport "lay-over" in my travel day. Does anyone have a "cost-effective" alternative...other than an expensive taxi ride ?

My wife and I used Supershuttle. You'll pay the same amount regardless of how many people are on there with you and they don't wait too long at the terminal for it to fill up (if at all). IIRC, it came out to about $30 per head each way but we had bought the round trip fare which made it much cheaper.

Did you check to see what time the first Mayair flight is? It will be quicker and maybe not much more money if you are going to spend $30 each plus ferry.

First flight out on my travel day is 9 AM for $63 USD OW. Also have experienced "excess weight" issues in the past flying on these small craft.

Mayair is a nice alternative provided you have limited baggage and do not exceed their weight limits. If you are carrying gear this is not a cost effective option. A taxi via the Cancun airport taxi cartel (more vicious than a mafia) is $87 USD. Last month I took a Van into Cancun and got to talking with the driver, I told him I come down monthly and got a low ball 'VIP' quote for $700 MXN ($35USD) for future trips from the airport to Playa del Carmen. I told him I was going to post his card on SB, after this and he said they could offer this low ball prices to divers (not to dumb, we travel often as possible). He seemed like a very good guy with a small van company, with nice equipment, that is trying to grow. I plan to use him on the 18th when I head down after work for a late trip to catch the 10PM ferry. The driver I spoke with was named Luis and while I can't guarantee 700MXN even 800MXN would be a fair price. Here is his card, check them out. If it works OK please leave a report:popcorn: .

If you make it into Cozumel early enough to dive that morning, be careful. I spoke with the chamber Doc from CostaMed a couple years back and he told me his primary customer base was not the 'to deep to long' folks but the worn out dehydrated first day divers that never exceeded the tables but take an undeserved hit due to stress.
