I definitely agree. See a doc. If the pain is spreading, it's likely an infection.
It's very possible that the cause of it all is impacted earwax.
Something similar happened to me and another student in my OW class.
The other student's situation sounded like yours, in that it was painful and he couldn't equalize for subsequent dives. He had to drop out of the class and go back after a visit to the doctor.
Mine was less serious. Even though I was slightly deaf in my left ear for several days, there was no pain involved and I was able to equalize pressure with no problem.
My blockage was able to be resolved by several days use of wax removal solution and repeated flushing. Had there been any pain, or if I had to drop out of the class, I would have surely seen a doc right away.
