Afrin is a powerful vasoconstrictor, and does enormous good relieving congestion, but be careful with it. When it wears off, people often have a feeling of worse stuffiness than they had before they used it, and if you succumb to the temptation to reuse the drug, you can get into a vicious cycle known as rhinitis medicamentosa, which can require steroids and a fair amount of uncomfortable time to relieve.
