The spring is closed by the navy .. we lease the property to them to do sonar research ... nothing top secret but they are very sensitive about the noise levels. We can't even swim there anymore.

Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks for the reply.

Should you or the navy ever have any interest in having a survey done I'm sure Curt or I (along with other cave divers) would jump at the chance to help out. Consider it an open offer.

Has any exploration ever been done in the cave system? If there has, I'd be interested in reading about it.

Hello ... I dosn't hurt to ask and I wish I could share this place with everyone. My dad is the owner and has to abide to the navys lease agreement. We have a flow meter and a camera installed in the main vent at about 170 feet. The cavern is minimal and the vent(s) are too small to explore. The camera actually is observing fish that live around the vent which is very unusal for an anabolic sink hole. We are trying to establish a live feed that we can post on a web site but that is still in the works. The spring commitiee has visited it for the spring bulliten revision and there should be some analysis in the 2nd and 3rd mag spring bulliten when it gets published. We do have entries in the 1944 and 1977 editions as well. I've been diving for about 33 years now and have been on much better dives. West hole in woodville (of cr 61) and emerald sink near tallahassee are similar except the bugg dive has the worst vis. It's alomst like diving an abandoned phoshaste mine. Thanks for being interested in this place and I hope that there will be some web pictures soon. charly

Interesting. Thanks. Let us know if anything gets posted.

Resurrecting a long dead thread here, but came accross it this spring online the other day, and it sounded very interesting. I bet someone at the navy, or maybe one of our politicians could help get at least a write up in advanced diver magazine done.

Hi ... This is Bugg_Spring ... if you're interested in this spring please contact Dr. Joe Branham ... owner of the spring ... 352-787-5893.

I don't know about lurking ... I just watch the posts come in on Bugg Spring and then I log on to respond .... that's funny about contacting the local politicians. I'm glad that you still have faith in the system ... unfortuantly our local boobs don't do much unless personally motivated ... and I don't think any of them want to take on the navy. You can contact the navy but they don't have the authority to let you dive there, they will most assuredly have any trespassers arrested, and it aint that great a dive to make it worth that ... my dad is the owner and has let people dive there ... give'em a call ... it's a nice place to visit but the dive isn't that great ... I've been diving there since the '70s and there are much nicer places in Fla to go. Nothing top secret going on there ... believe me ... there is no mystery there, no hidden ufo's or treasure. Just silt and mudfish. Google Bugg Spring and there is a lot of info on the place. Call him if you want to watch a 3 hour video of silt coming out of the 2.5' diameter vent ... it gets really exciting during the first hour ... a small fish swims out of the vent and then the flash light that's taped to the ROV falls off. Completely captivating.

Admit the truth! Its a containment center for the Loch Ness Monster while the Navy is working with Vietnam era MKULTRA mind control to control it as the ultimate anti-shipping weapon in the U.S. arsenal!

It not neccesarily what you see thats exciting, but just simply getting to dive something unique. As for politicians, they can be replaced. Since it is a navy lease you simply have to work your way up the chain of command till you find someone who can make a decision. Even if that goes to the President.
