Dugong...just back from Egypt

Hi all,

Just back from Egypt (Marsa Alam) and managed to get lucky and see a dugong.

Apparently is is possible to see these creatures in this area but they are becoming very rare.

Thought you might be interested anyway!

Isn't the difference in the tail, which is shaped like a rounded paddle on the Manatee and fluke-shaped (split) tails on the Dugong?!

Yep, that's the major difference.
Also, location, Manatees will be found off the eastern coasts of the Americas and Western Africa and Dugongs in the Western Pacific, Easterns Indian and of course the Red Sea.
Dugong also have small tusks.
Sea Cows are also thought to be related to elephants!
