i'm about to start my advanced nitrox course with a view to starting my technical course later this year. i'm currently diving a diverite transpac with a rec wing and twin 55cf tanks. obviously for technical stuff i'm going to need bigger tanks down the track.

my instructor tells me i'll need a superwing for the techy stuff but that it will be suitable with the twin 55's in the mean time. does anyone have any experience with 55's on a superwing? they are a damn big wing....

i trust my instructor and i know he's just trying to save me a few bucks but i always like to get a few opinions on these things.

cheers

I'll bet that'll make a interesting pic, I use a superone wing with a set of LP 104's
the wings come past the side of the tanks a good 5-6 inches. I can only wonder if you'll have any "taco" problems with them. Do you access to any alum 80's? Even those are kinda small for a super. Why can't you continue to use your rec wings? I use a rec tek on a set of 80's, works great,

i've got access to pretty much any tanks i need and i'll prob use steel 100's for the techy stuff. the rec wing is ok with a drysuit in winter but it's too hot to wear a drysuit here in summer so i don't want that restriction.

i if it's that much overlap on LP104's then it's gonna be huge on the 55's. might have to look at a dual classic or a dual rec until such times as i need something bigger. my wife will be thrilled about me having to get "another" wing later...:rofl3:

cheers

I am having difficulty imagining a diving situation that would mandate 75+ pounds of wing.

I'm sure there are some, but I haven't come across them, and if I did, I'd rethink the cylinders I was using as stages. 45 pounds has been great for me, I haven't been even close to using all of the wing's lift.

You might consider soliciting a second opinion from a local tech instructor!

All the best, James

Why not just go with your rec wings for a while first? try it out to see if it'll have enough lift, I'm thinking it might, btw what size tanks are you looking at getting?

Hey James,
In my case it's what I had, And besides when I want to come up I wanna look like the hunt for red october.:rofl3:
I agree with the second opinion too. Oh I also forgot I've got one of the older wings, That puppy's got 100 lbs of lift. Anyone got a sherman tank they need raised?

on further consultation with my instructor i've decided on a dual rec wing for use with the 55's and down the track i'll get something bigger for 100's and stage/deco if needed. he was just trying to save me a few $$$ but i'm happy to spend the cash to get the right gear for the job.

thanks for the opinions....

cheers
