Hello everyone. I am a stocky dude. I am 5'7"" and about 185lbs. I used to play football and crap and lift weights so i'm thicker than I guess normal folks. I have a 33" waist or so. Anyway, I notice all the suits that are for my weight are for people taller than me. What kind of size should I be looking at? I am looking to buy a suit off the shelf and not get a custome one made. What companies offer lots of sizing options? I am referring to drysuits. Thanks alot.

Whatever you do, don't buy one that's too long. Just keep trying different ones until you find one with enough rrom in it for your torso. Maybe a Bare size M or ML crushed neoprene would fit you. They tend to be fairly spacious in the torso.

Also, if you try everything and nothing fits then your *way* better off to get one made to fit. The difference in price isn't that much and what you get in comfort is worth evrey cent of it.

I guess i"ll just have to go out and try them then. Are there any economically priced models out there in the $600-$1000 range with the Tri-Lam material? Thanks.

Your going to find that anything that fits you around is going to be to long for you. Bare does do custom fitting as does DUI. As to price I don't know what your looking at in US dollars. But the one thing I'll tell you is that you'll save a lot of headache if you spend the money on custom, and the other thing you have to remember about with a trilam suit is that you have to buy some sort of undersuit for it or you'll freeze yourself.

Where is a good custom suit place other than DUI. Yes, I know they are good but I can' afford $2200 for a custom suit like their prices suggest. And no i'm not trying to skimp and stuff like some one is sure to say. Its just I honestly don't have that much money and don't see myself having that in the forseeable future :)

I think this was already mentioned, but I think that Bare does custom fitting. I have no idea as to their price range, but it might be worth looking into.

I definetley get what you mean about the money issue. I live in the PNW, and would love to have a dry suit to use in the winter, but so far, thats not in my future!

I have come to the conclusion that the people who design dive gear have had a human being described to them, but they have never actually seen one.

I lucked out when a Bare XL wetsuit fit me perfectly, so I bought a Bare XL drysuit, which also fit me perfectly.

Getting the legs or arms shortened on a drysuit is no big deal. Just make sure the torso is right or you will either have trouble kicking or will start singing soprano.

Im getting an Andy's Drysuit in a standard size and im asking them to just take off a couple of inches off the legs because I am also very short and stocky. It costs very little to "trim" off some length off the legs. So instead of 5'6'' to 5'9'' im getting 5'5'' :). And the trim is very cheep, only like 30$. Its a lot cheeper then going full custom.

Ahh, now this is definitely an option I was unaware of. Thanks for pointing the trimming out, this will open up new possibilities. Thanks everyone.
