Has anyone had experience replacing latex seals (neck and wrist) themselves? How hard is it and what would I need?

Thanks,

Scott

I am also very interrested in this and hope we can get some good feedback on this.I hear its an easy repair for the do-it-yourself type person.I would prefer to do my own instead of paying a bundle for a diveshop to do it.

I've done a few seals (neck and wrists) on a Viking, but I'm not a pro at it. The steps aren't bad, but it's a bit time consuming and tedious to do a nice job -- for me anyway.

If you decide you don't want to try it yourself, I hear these guys do good work:

Good luck.

I sent mine to "See-me repair in Southern California. they did a great job and most of all i didnt have to do it. For now, i leave this job for the pros, or the very brave and Patient.

What is the cost differential between doing it yourself and sending it off to get done?

Parts and labor?

Spydertek

PS. I am making the assumption that the owner does not have a factory warrenty.

The price difference is not huge when it comes to the cost of the seals. I think it is the labor side. You have to ask yourself if you want to work on the suit for a few hours and watch it for a day and then test it to make sure there are no leaks or the seals will hold or.... send it out and have someone else do it. It comes down to piece of mind.

I have the book Dry Suit Diving 3rd edition. In this book it covers the replacement of latex wrist & neck seals. After reading the book, I am convinced that it’s not something I’m going to be doing myself. I have more faith in the pro’s.

I have replaced my wrist seals twice (very thin latex), no problem! You just have to be very carfull. I havn't tried the neck seal, but the main problem is probably finding a thing to fit the shape. I think I've heard of somebody using a bowl.

Don't forget to search the board for other answers.

Seal replacement is very easy and can save you both time and money. I have instructions at:

Hope that helps!
