This question may be better served in the rebreather section. Syops please move if necessary. Purchasing a new drysuit soon and also considering a CM rebreather in the next 18 months. When using a chest mount rebreather what is the ideal location for the inflator? I read somewhere that the thigh was an option. Is that what others are doing? What are the pros and cons of the location. How does safety play a role in all this? Any advice is appreciated.

i don't dive a chestmount rebreather but i'd imagine needing to reach down to your thigh to inflate your drysuit would be pretty cumbersome. particularlly on decent while you're cycling through drysuit, dil mav, ears, and wing. it's probably better if all those things are relatively close together

I do dive a chest mount.

Leave the inflator in the stock location , it is a non issue to reach under a chest mount even with bulky drygloves and ring systems.

Edit: @Ty Hamby i see you’re in NorCal, I am as well and am in Monterey most weekends diving my Choptima. There aren’t that many of us here and we all know one another, if you see chest mounts come say hi and you can see for yourself in person how the inflator works out.

Wow! Thank you for the invite. Yes I am in Sac. I will definitely hit you up as I get closer to my rebreather path. I am getting ready to purchase a wetsuit and these are the things that float around in my head. 90% of my diving has been California coast and high altitude lakes. So 7mm neoprene is not working so well this time of the year. Where did you get your Chop training? Are there instructors in the area or will I need to travel out of state?

You want Blue Water Adventures in Pacheco/Concord (formerly the Anchor Shack). They have a pool on site, rental chops for try dives, and training, just don’t tell them I sent you ;)

I suggest upper right thigh like common mil drysuits intended to use chest-mount rebreathers.
Something like this - see attached pic.
Easy to reach and lessens operational load.

Do you dive a chest mount rebreather?

To the OP, do not move the inflator to your leg, just go dive it as intended.

I also have a chest mount and just reach under and push the button. I have all the obstructions, thick electric heated undersuit, dry gloves and still no issue to push the inflator. It's not so bad honestly. And I'm a beginner in CCR, so it's harder for me. Still no issue.
