So, I just bought a new set of gear and I know to freshwater soak/rinse after each use because I know what saltwater does to stuff. So, my question is: after I rinse out the BCD bladder with freshwater, how do I go about drying it? Is it even necessary to do so?

I would imagine it is, especially if its not going to get too much use over the winter (which mine isnt), this way mildew doesnt grow in there and thus funkifying your BCD.

Thanks.

I usually fill it with air and blow it out several times to get most of the water out then fill it with air and dump it over the next few days until I cant get any water or spray out. But I also try to keep it in use whenever I can.

The easiest way to get the inside of the bladder to dry out when putting it away for storage is to unscrew the shoulder pull dump and any overpressure dump valves.

After a few days of drying out, then you can put the pieces back on. Before putting my BCD in storage for a while, I'll pull off the right shoulder dump --- the cord is captive is a sleeve so I don't lose the parts.

I just bought my BCD, reg, and comp. a little while ago. The dive shop told me to rise with freshwater, let it air dry before storing it away, and make sure to leave a tiny bit of air in the BCD. They explained that you shouldn't allow the bladder to be empty for long periods of time and have the lining on the inside touching and being so compressed. I'm assuming he's right... so that's what I'm going to do :) Of course when you travel, empty all the air out.
