Hi I need some help... I am looking to purchase my first dry suit and I'm not sure about buying a shell,7mm , or crushed neo suit. Also I am diving with a Seaquest Pro QD+ jacket style BC. It was recommended to me to use a back inflator if I am going to use a dry suit. I have looked at the DUI suits but they are very expensive and I'm not sure if I need a suit like that for the diving I do. I am a recreational diver in the US Norhteast.I was interested in the Henderson, O'Neill, Harvey's and the like of 7mm dry suits. I have also looked at the Bare Next GEn, ATR, and ATR light. Can spmeone help me out with recommendations about suits they use and in the same type of diving?
THANX in advance.....

There is a real good thread on this topic somewhere on the board, the pros & cons of each flavor suit were discussed in length.
I'll see if I can find it & link to it before someone else does.
The race is on!!:D

While you're waiting for it to show up, here are a couple pages of goodies to scroll through:

This is the one, it gives a good rundown on the various types & their strong & weak points:

What works for one person may not work for another, discussion boards like this one give a person access to all sorts of good info, ya just have to sort through it all.

Hey Bob I have been reading about you.... I see you are the man to talk to about diving and dry suits. Got a web site I can check out?

If you want a good drysuit under a grand go with a neoprene drysuit. The one I'm getting is the Henderson Arctic 2 drysuit; it sells for 500 at my local dive shop. It comes standard with a lot of the features DUI make you pay through the nose for(like kevlar kneepads and boots)Diving in the northeast us, when you see divers in drysuits 90% of the time there wearing DUI's; and If your like me you can't afford to throw 2000 dollars plus options into a drysuit. Another thing about trilams in general is there about as aerodynamic (under water) as a brick. I've tried a lot of the DUI trilams at there demo day and I expended a lot more effort kicking. The seals on most neoprene drysuits are also neoprene which insulates as well as keeps water out, latex seals which are on trilams mostly do not insulate which makes you a little colder; and if you have a large neck like I do you’re not going to get the feeling of being strangled with neoprene neck seals. Neoprene dry suits have inherent insulating abilities; which means you don’t have to wear all those bulky undergarments (just a moisture wicking base layer). Rodale’s Scuba Diving magazine also rated the Henderson drysuit a best buy and a tester’s choice.
Hope this helps,
Neil

Take a look at the Andys DS-3. It is a shell suit. Descent price. great customer service. Shell suits are nice (would get one if I did it again) they dry fast, easy for travel.

My first suit was a DUI TLS 350, got a Henderson when it was away for zipper/seals. I use the DUI summer and fall, and the Henderson winter and spring (warmer).

I like my White's shell suit, almost has a tailored feel and a lot less drag than most shell suits...plus I get to vary my undergarments for the seasons...

Hi
It is funny how your situation is similat to mine. I was about to post the same question. I also looked at DUIs first and then realized that they are overkill (and overprice) for what i need. Now I ma looking into Henderson Arktic 2. Thank you for posting that topick
