Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to this sport

I have a question for the people more experience than myself. I already bought my equipment (the whole package!).

I dive wet and now I'm thinking moving to dry. Other than the obvious, are there any benefits to diving dry vs wet? Is it more trouble?

And a stupid question: If I get a hose install on my 1st stage, can I use it without the dry suit?

Thank You for taking the time to answer me.

Do you mean that if you have an additonal L/P hose installed on your 1st stage for dry suit inflation can you dive a wet suit without having it hooked up?

Well, yes, you can, but it's not a good idea.

Why? What can happen?

Well, since it's not attached to anything, it can become tangled in something else. Contaminants may enter the orifice of the hose and subsequently be forced into the dry suit inflation valve and so on . . . .

Hmmm... I have two different inflator hoses on my reg... one for my ScubaPro Air 2 and one for my other BCD's. I've never had any problems that I'm aware of... no water creeping up those hose into the first stage. Is this the problem you are concerned about?

PS- Just saw your reply, Kraken.

you know, it's pretty easy to remove the hose before a wet dive, and then
to put it back when diving dry.

all it takes is a wrench and about two minutes, tops

A buddy dives his single tank rig with the DS inflator attached. He simply uses velcro straps to hold it securely to his gauge/console. Never failed and is one less piece of gear to forget and/or remove. As far as the differences. A drysuit is a bit more combersome donning and doffing and some require undies. I would not trade mine for anything. It is simply the greatest piece of gear I have bought to date. Also, I found very little learning curve with it.

I was diving with my wetsuit on a beach dive and did not remove the DS inflator hose.

A particularly nasty wave rolled me up the beach like a beach ball.

The drysuit inflator connector was completely full of sand and grit. I never did get it to reliably seal and inflate after that.

I had to buy a new one.

So it is possible to screw up the inflator hose if you mistreat it enough.
