Has anyone had any issues driving the lower part of Baja? We may do a quick 1-2 hour road trip from Cabo. I'm mainly interested in crime, corrupt police, that sort of thing.

1-2 hours won't get you anywhere. Take the day and get out of the tourist trash.

Great loop around La Paz and the East Cape. Most of your problems are in Cabo. The Pacific side is a little boring, so go up the east side and enjoy Los Barriles / Buena Vista and La Paz. Late afternoon head back to Cabo down the Pacific.

Do not drive Los Barriles / La Paz in the Dark !

Last thought, you can have road problems if you go during or right after a storm.
