This may be a dumb question, but is most of the diving in Cosumel drift diving?

no- its not dumb- and yes it is mostly drift. Sometimes the current is quite strong. I had a couple of days where I felt like I was racing past all the good stuff.

Stogey,

If you are already real familiar with drift diving, then please don't be offended by this. Since you sound like you haven't been to Cozumel before, and since it doesn't say how many dives you have in your profile, I thought that this might be of interest to you.

There was a thread created a little while ago asking about Drift Diving in Cozumel, and what to expect. I spent a few minutes jotting down my thoughts. If you want to get an idea of what to expect while boat diving in Cozumel, you can check out this thread.

Hey thanks WS,
I felt like I just did a dive after reading that thread.

I'm heading down there in a little over a week for my first Ocean dive. Thanks much for writing this!

My first marine dives were Cozumel drift dives. I was all worked up but it is not bad at all. My only warning to you is this: Cozumel is very very addicting. Have fun.

Jump in. Relax in your Lazy Boy recliner. Watch the scenery go by.

Yep, it'll make you lazy.

Good play by play Wristshot. Reminds me, I want to be there. I will add one more thing about getting into the boat. I have seen too many newbies waiting to get into the boat right at the ladder. That is dangerous. The boat can come down on top of you or the one getting into the boat can come down on top of you. Some boats throw a line you can hang out on till it is your turn, others dont. Just be careful.

Thanks Wristshot! Mighty good wrap-up.
The only thing I might add is that if you are lucky/experienced enough to dive the north end of the island, make absolutely sure you stay with the group, and carry as many signaling devices as you can manage (Dive alert, sausage, whistle, mirror, light). Have a great time in COZ!

Good additions all. I will add those to the original WORD document that I wrote for future references.
