I've been searching through tons of threads and have not really found the answer I'm looking for. I am considering getting a DR transpac as a travel BC when I hit the warmer waters of the Carribbean. Though the DR travel wing sounds like the wing to get, I was wondering if I could get another wing like the DSS lcd20, OMS travel wing, or even the Mach V that everyone is raving about. Will the transpac accommodate these wings? Would I need a STA to use any of these wings?

Also, I hear that the Transpac carries the tank high on the back. My regs have din connectors on them, so I'll be using a din to yolk adaptor when needed. Will I be knocking myself on the back of my head if I use the transpac?

As for any suggestions of going BP/W, I really don't want to go in that direction right now.

Thanks

Yes, it should accomodate them just fine, so long as the wings are slotted to allow cam bands to be threaded through them.

Nope. The aforementioned cam bands hold the tank to the back of the transpac, and sandwich the wing in between.

You might. Mine did, but it wasn't TOO bad.

Good luck with it, I was very happy with mine for quite a while.

The Transpac is an excellent choice as a travel BC. I have had one for about three years and normally take it with me when I travel. The travel wing is a good wing and since you are not planning on going the BP/wing route, it should be fine. However, the Transpac will accomodate any wing that has cam strap slots, which is just about all of them these days, EXCEPT for the Mack V. The Transpac is not setup to be used with a STA (single tank adapter), so that wing is out of the question.

The DR travel wing is already very streamlined, but if you want a more streamline dwing then the Oxycheq razor or the DSS LCD 20 would be fine.

Well, not QUITE out of the question, but you'd have to use the stabilizer plates that DiveRite sells for folks who want to use their Transpac with doubles. You could connect a STA to those, and that would give you the bolt-through attachment that would let you use the Mach V. Seems like a bass-ackward way to do it though. If you want to dive wings that aren't readily compatable with the Transpac, maybe a Transpac isn't the best choice.

If you dont mind a suggestion.....

Consider going with the TransPlate instead. The reasons would be that there is less to wait to dry, you can trim some weight off your belt or out of pouches, and it isnt anymore difficult to travel with than the TransPac. And should you ever want to go doubles.....you'll be better off.

I carry mine on board in a computer bag with no problems. Yep, the plate sure does show up on the TSA xray...but as soon as they see it...no problem.

Just a thought.

I should always provide leeway for creativity. I stand corrected:D

Yeah... some things aren't easy to do, and some things ought not to be done, but IMHO neither of them should be lightly mistaken for "can't be done". ;)

I have the Transpac w/Travel Wing and dig it muchly. If you plan on doing BP/W in the future, the Travel wing won't work with those. If that's not the case, then the TP+TW setup works great for a small light travel setup. Took mine to Cozumel in October and it worked great.

I had the Transplate for a short while and didn't like the weight of the SS plate. The AL plate might make a nicer solution, but wouldn't take much weight off my belt while giving up the comfort of the soft back on the Transpac.

Here's a pic of my 2XL Transpac (w/Travel Wing) next to my daughter's small Zeagle Brigade for comparisons:

Also, the tank does ride high. I put the top of the top band right on the imprinted numbers on top of my AL80 and that keeps it from banging my head. Any higher and I touch my first stage when I look up.

Try the Transplate with an AL plate and an Oxy Razor. That's what I use for travel and it packs smaller than the Transpak with a Travel wing I used before. The Razor wing is great for travel, it hardly takes up any space and weighs less than the Travel wing. You won't need a STA with it because of the slots in the plate, it holds the tank securely.
