While being outfitted with equipment my local dive shop recommended a 59 pound DR Classic Wing to go with my single steel 12o tank. Now after looking at the Dive Rite website, I see the this wing is not recommended for use with a single tank.
I have had to "move the air around" in the bladder for better trim while on the surface.
Why is this configuration not recommended and what is the risk of using this equipment as is.

You will have to go almost heads-up vertical to dump air from your inflator hose. Your rear dump might be out of reach because the wing will "taco" or wrap around your tank.

The wing is simply too large for a single tank and it will cause drag.

GRT,

I dive a PST steel 119 and use the Dive Rite "Venture" and "Rec" wings.

I prefer the "Venture" wing. I most frequently use the "Rec" wing, but we won't get into that.

Take that crap back, and find a new shop. Anyone who'd recommend this clearly has never done it. My DR Classic wraps badly on my AL80 DOUBLES...

Well the next question would be - If I need that much lift, what should I have?

Why on EARTH would you need 60# of lift? You stuffing gold bars in your pockets?

That has ZERO to do with the lift you need. You need to find out how to weight yourself properly, then select a wing that can lift your equipment in the water WITHOUT YOU. You should weight yourself so that you, WITHOUT your gear, are neutral.

If your LDS doesn't know this, I wouldn't trust them to sell me a mouthpiece.

I dive a steel DR BP with a "REC WING" mounted on a steel 119 tank. This wing is more than enough lift for the plate, the tank, the 6lb STA i have mounted on it, plus wreck reel, plus DR cannister light, plus two back up lights, plus a knife, plus shears.
