Hx:--Been using Elements 5/then pics to Picasa for final edit for almost 4 years now(for my A570) & gunna start using RAW very shortly for my UW pics(S95)......

I've edited in DPP a few from a couple pool shoots & starting to get far enuff into DPP to have a few questions...ie (1)when people say 'you can change the white balance in DPP' what are they meaning?..(2)how do you duplicate a pic?..(3)where's the de-backscattering tool?(if there's one?)..(3) Where's the crop icon?(I've cropped some of the below RAW ones but used Picasa after I converted the pic to JPEG & exported to Picasa)......Maybe kind of give a run down of what you do in DPP would be appreciated........

Examples here:
S95 1st shoot in pool Feb 11 pictures by GEAUXtiger - Photobucket
.....9 out of the 1st 10 pics in the above link were shot in RAW---just so happened the THIRD one was in JPEG....I used DPP to edit the RAW ones...By looking @ them was there anything else I could/should have done???.....& I've got (fairly--be kind--lol) thick skin....

Gilligan's directions are (as you would expect), beautifully done.

Regarding backscatter....it is just an editor (with a lot more than just white balance).

If you want to remove backscatter, you will need another program.

Oddly, printing from DPP is not such a good idea, as it does not have all the work flow management.

One of the odd things about DPP and the S90/S85 is that the camera/software does barrel correction even on the raw images. If you have another software that does not automatically do that (Paint Shop Pro for example), you will actually see a much wider image... which can be corrected, leaving a wider view. As you are pulling out the middle, the resolution goes down a bit, but can make for a wider, wide angle.

DPP is not the tool you want to really edit pics. If you are happy with Elements then use it or get Lightroom. DPPs main job for many folks is to open Canon Raw pics to edit in Photoshop or Lightroom etc.
Download LR from Adobe and play with it for free for 30 days. It can do all the stuff you will need.
