For those who are interested, the Spiegel Grove was opened for the public to dive on yesterday. As a resident of the Keys I have been waiting and anticipating the chance to dive her for a long time and I got my chance yesterday.

She is truly amazing! The wreck is absolutely HUGE. It was a sight to be going down the line towards this massive ship lying on it's starboard side. It was even a little scary. About 400 feet of the 510 foot wreck is accecessible at 48-50 feet. Most of the ship can be explored at depths between 50-85 feet. This really is a sight to see. I can see me doing a hundred plus dives on her and still not seeing all there is to her.

If you get a chance to come down, it's well worth it:)

I dove with these guys, they are GREAT!!

I would love to go dive her. There was an excellant article in Dive Trainer Magazine this month giving some history of the clean up and such. Had some great photos as well. I think this would make a very interesting dive and hope to one day be able to get there.

I am green with envy. Maybe next year I'll be able to get down that way.

Any Dive Pics?

TexasMike, NetDoc and I are going to dive her just before Wreckmania --- can't wait!

I have been on her three times now. I did get some pics, but haven't gotten them back from the developer yet. There is a site with some pics at www.spiegel-grove.com.

Did some penetration the last time I dove. Really quite a sight! I plan to do alot more diving as I begin to map her out.

And all I can say is wow. This was my first wreck dive, and what a first wreck dive it was! Not sure if anything else can compare, and I'm planning to try and dive the SG at least once a year to watch the progress from wreck to reef.

The sight of her is a little eerie, but beautiful in a strange way. I never imagined I'd be interested in wreck penetration, but after diving the SG it's something that I'd definitely be interested in looking into.

Truly stunning. And lots of critters already!
