Which doubles do you use?

I own and use LP Steel and the new HP (3442 working pressure) Steel Cylinders as well as Aluminum 80's as my doubles.

I use steel cylinders for my doubles diving either wet or dry...fresh or salt water.

I really don't understand the point of double AL80's. except for redundancy. oh boy you get 154 CF of air.... here's a nickel kid get your self some LP85's doubled, or cave fill a LP 130.

Isn't that the idea of doubles... redundancy?

I used double AL80's for a long time to start off and for ocean dives. I like their buoyancy swing since it helps with diving wetsuits in the ocean. In caves I dive steel 100's or 108's for their bigger capacity.

AL80 doubles are great to start off and are light. They can be broken up later to become stages/deco bottles.

I agree, other than diving wet I don't see the idea of AL80's doubled.

Getting gear together now for my first set of doubles. Just waiting for it all to come in. But I'm starting with double AL80's. Simply because they are manageable and for the learning curve I think they'll serve me well. Not to mention I got a great deal on a hardly used set.

Double AL 80's are not a bad way to go for moderate deco dives in the 100-150 ft range with 45-50 minute run times. 100 feet for 40 minutes, 130 ft for 30 minutes and 150 ft for 25 minutes are all reasonable dives with double 80's and a 1/3 reserve, even without a deco gas if you use a suitable mix, as long as you have a decent SAC.

In the relative scheme of things double AL 80's can be an inexpensive option, they are very stable if you get them trimmed right and when you start going deeper/longer, you can break them up and still use them as stage bottles so they make good starter doubles.

Steel.
There is no way on earth i'd want to use Aluminium and carry yet more lead just to keep the things down.
Plus they're heavier out of the water.
