I see what you are saying about the price and funding it, i also understand the H valve issue, maybe they are something we can live without and just do doubles later and singles for now. As for funding, i would prefer to bit off small chunks at $2000 a pop, than drop $10000 at once for a bunch of gear - but still end up with the same stuff. I dont know many people who can drop that much cash at once easily - but there is always saving up for it - but that doesnt get us tanks at this stage of the game by saving up - hence the smaller chunk for tanks for now - ready for doubles, but as singles, other gear for doubles when we are trained and ready when the time comes.

You mean I was actually supposed to afford all the tech crap I've bought! That's why they have all those 0% teaser APRs on credit cards...that way you just keep transferring the balances and essentially have a 0% loan.

Just messing with you. Dropping 10 grand at once can certainly give you an upset stomach....

So far we have only dropped $7k between my GF and i on training, gear and trips (all local) since last fall, i am forseeing another $2k on tanks in the near future, another $3-4k on further gear purchases (wings, lights, AL tanks, regs) and of course the further training around $2k as well so all in all around 8k+ for the lot just to get started!!

Simon Now after reading this thread and the e-mails we have sent each other I think I have a solution. Keeping in mind that I understand where it is you/Becky would like to go. (your writings are not the easiest to understand)
Here we go. Purchase the 120's for you and the 100's for Becky. Just go with the standard tanks and valves. I will let you use the doubles and the BP and wings (Becky and You) I have when the time is right. In the interm we will work on the basic skills to get you where you want to go. We can do cavern with a basic set up. (Ask Fred aka fgray1 by the time we finish cavern you will have a easy transition going into intro- to- cave.) Here you will need a H valve or you can be trained in doubles. I have additional doubles that you have not seen yet available to me. I think this will help the pocket book and allow less equipment changing about for now.

The deeper into tech diving you go the deeper in to debt you are - how ironic isn't it

The problem is that I can always justify the expenditures in my mind! I have the innate ability to make all the numbers just work out when I really want something bad! The problem, ofcourse, is getting my wife to use the same kind of self serving crazy math that makes the numbers work for me!!!

Will enquire about the tanks in doubles and as singles with post-like valves to see what prices come up! Thanks for help you all, i will be speaking to GDI more on this matter i feel!

Ah the math vs the wife justification issue. Well I use the stuff in my everyday job so my justification isn't to bad. But You actually tell your wife first or do you humble yourself looking for forgiveness rather than permission?

No, I kind of have a weird way of handling it. First, I justify it to myself ofcourse. I'm taking my OW instructor course next month, so it may not be tech, but it helps justify some of my purchases in my mind (plus some tax write off advantages) ! Then, after trying to figure out the correct angle to present it to the boss, I constantly battle in my mind what to do. All of this battling eventually results into the "okay, here's what I'm GOING to get and I don't care if you get mad" sort of scenario. This, ofcourse, never works very well! So, after realizing I came on too strong with the "I am man, hear me roar" approach, I talk about safety issues and things like that. Eventually, it works out okay, but I always get reminded down the road about my purchases especially when I'm looking for something else!

AH yes we all go through that my friend

Well, maybe all of you poor SOB's who have the ball and chain...
I am single for a reason. I dont need another "boss". Every day I find a new reason NOT to get married. No thanks, I am all set with that...
