I personally thought it showed a lot of control and professionalism. I wouldn’t have been able to "bite my tongue" in that manner.

The statement required a response from the Captain, as it implied over pricing. The Captain did a good job of justifying costs (not that he needed to).

I agree

I was planning to dive with you this sumer. Im alittle taken back by your respose. If you get this steam up about some one saying this trip cost to much, id hate to see what you do with a real problem. $1500 for this trip seems pretty fair to me. I just though you being the capt could have come up with some thing more professional than you did.
TDL's trip is for you then.

It's just easier to disparage those that simply think that's it's a lot of money. As I said, I don't blame anyone for charging whatever they can and still fill the boat. Just realize that some, myself included, feel that that is a bunch of money to possibly NOT EVEN DIVE. But hey, that's just silly me.

For me - IMHO - The wreck has turned into a trophy and if you got the dough . . . then you get to go! $$$$ for the right "cards", and $$$$ for the charter, and BINGO, you're a Doria diver.

Now, before all the "legitimate" Doria divers want to break out the noose and string me up, I'm not talking about you guys. YOU KNOW WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT. There has been talk "in the community" for over ten years about what I am saying.

I'm talking about a diver that never dove doubles before the summer of 05 (I know because I built them for this diver), and didn't even know how to mount the regs on them, is now "taking classes" and is scheduled for a trip next summer.

Tell me that's right.

Not from my boat.

I think it's funny that all of these boards feature tons of people that will stir up and sling all kinds of s**t and not have the b*lls to sign off with their real name. I chose my handle because I have nothing to hide and WANT people to know who is responding to them (good or bad).

Ask anyone that has dove off SEEKER since I've owned her, or taken classes with me (paid for training, earned certification), or purchased gear from me if they were happy with what they got and felt that they were treated professionally. I think you'll find that they are very satisfied with my level of professionalism. Most students end up becoming very good friends. It's a big part of why I do what I do.

The person I responded to harshly got exactly what I (and a good deal of other members) felt he deserved. He flat out accused me of gouging with no idea of what he was talking about. I run a very fair boat/business. People earn respect from me, they don't get a preordained amount of it heaped on just for having an OW card. If I posted something like he did I would be fully prepared to get slapped down. My crewmembers jokingly call it the "Jensen Slapdown" LOL! I'll give people the shirt off my back, but spit in my face and watch out.

This vessel literally has my blood, sweat, and tears in her. I've put everything I have into her and take it very seriously. If I can't do it 150% I won't do it at all.

Flame away.

Love and Kisses :10: ,

Mike

I thought Jensen's response was reasonably restrained given the potshots that were leveled at him. I have no dog in this hunt either - I like diving in warm water, with fishes and such, lol.

Capt.

Never said it was your boat, nor did I imply it. But, by your response, you know it happens. Just making the point that anything has a price for those willing to pay. Some outfits will take anyone for the money. Heck, you can climb Everest for 60k or go into outerspace for a cool mil. I also said - for the third time now - that one cannot blame the person charging the fee for getting what he or she can get. I don't think you even have to justify or rationalize the price. BUT, there will be people that think the price is high, and their choice is not to go.

No need to get P O'ed with those that think the price is high.

As far as not signing off with a name and number; I do not do this partialy for advertising so I don't need everyone and their brother calling me. However, I do often sign my first name and I have my photo - in several places - on my website. Those that dive in RI and MA can easily find out - if they don't already know - who I am. I've never said anything that I would not say to someone's face.

Regards,

Dennis St Germain

Yes Dennis, but its one thing to have an informed opinion (which it appears you probably have and are entitled to your view on price) and another to throw out comments without any experience or reference point (which the original guy seemed to do). At the end of the day its a market and if the boats are full then the price is obviously acceptable.

BTW - agree with your comments on Everest. I'm sure it happens in diving as well. People in over their heads because they have the cash, relying on others to get them through. Its a shame
