Have fun - we just dove those a couple of weeks ago, plus the Frank O'Connor and the Louisiana. Conditions are excellent at Death's Door this year.

are you going out on a charter? or just shore diving?
doin them from a raft -boat and some shore dives on Washington Island- washington harbor near the old pier lookin for plates and well junk! and then boat raft
to the louisana across the harbor its always a good dive with great viz! and if Jim has a spot may do a charter-but this is a busy weekend,so I will be happy if i can get my tanks filled!

What's the current like for the Pilot Island wrecks? I've heard/read that death's door has a bit of current and can be quite nasty (waves, etc.)

I have my own boat (18' walleye fishing boat) and would like to go up there sometime, but am concerned about what I've heard about death's door. I'm guessing that if you're taking a raft, it's not all that bad, huh?

when i dove pilot island around the begining of august there was no current and viz was about 10 to 15ft in places. i would take a pass on it, all the wrecks or piles of wood are in at most 30ft of water.

i all so was up in sept to give washington island a try, this was the day after labor day and viz was worst. we dove of school house beach with 5ft or so of viz. needless to say i probly wont be going back. i couldnt wait to get back to the milwaukee area and dive our wrecks... car ferry, willy...

Bummer on the viz. I usually camp at Penninsula in mid-Sept, but didn't this year due to our first child being born a couple months ago. But I've already made reservations for next year!

I'm a newbie (warm water trained down in Trinidad & Tobago, got OW and AOW), but am looking forward to diving Door County next year. My buddy snorkeled somewhere off of the Penninsula State Park beach the last 2 years running on the same weekend and saw some wreck from the surface. He was amazed at the viz. Something like 30' he was saying.

Hey when you go counts, Late spring the lake can be mixed up,And the diver must of did the Louisiana late on Laborday cause early a.m. we had 20+ in the harbour we did some searching around the old pier for plates, found a cool bottle, also there is a nother wreck on the north side of Island i missed this time but will have some more info for you if you like lays in 30',Deaths Door is due to the shallow
water and when the wind blows WOW!! look out,We Had a great dive week end and ran back and forth getting fills on Main land,Even seen a gal taking a Au Natural sun tan on the cliffs near west harbour NICE!!
The Other wreck your pal did from shore was the Fleetwing, great shallow dive and most times good vis,its a great place to bring new divers-and new wreck divers, some may say just a pile of wood=to me its rich in history and soon may be gone so see it now!
Hey if you ever get up to DoorCounty hit me up 3 hour drive and most times well worth the dives!

that same week we dove the fleetwing and the viz was terrible on it as well, about 5ft.
