For more than 30 years, Divers Alert Network has served the recreational scuba diving industry by providing key research, training and safety programs. What started as a small group of diving enthusiasts has grown into an international organization serving more than 1 million members. A key ingredient to DANs continued effectiveness and growth is the donations the organization receives from divers and members of the industry.
In the last few years, contributions have made it possible for DAN to update its entire line of first aid training programs, expand educational outreach to the medical community, and develop online dive accident prevention and management resources.
DAN takes its role as the leader in scuba diving safety and research very seriously, said William Ziefle, DAN President and CEO. In the early 1990s, local dive stores realized how valuable DANs mission was and began organizing fundraising events and programs. A lot has changed in the last three decades, but one important element remains the need for donations and contributions to propel us forward in pursuit of our mission. One-hundred percent of all donations to The DAN Foundation directly support divers in need, allowing DAN to continue making significant advances in research, medical services, first aid and dive safety education. We encourage every member of the dive industry to help us make our sport safer for all divers said Ziefle.
The annual DAN giving campaigns have made essential safety initiatives possible:
· DAN has invested more than $100M in dive safety research, education and treatment of injured divers over the last 30 years.
· The DAN Emergency Hotline has served as a lifeline to divers for 280,520 consecutive hours.
· DAN medical specialists and research experts conducted 150 seminars in 2012 addressing incident prevention and management.
· DAN fielded more than 2,500 calls on the 24/7/365 emergency hotline in 2012.
· DAN has assisted more than 100 hyperbaric chambers through its Recompression Chamber Assistance Program (RCAP).
Popular options for giving include the Friends of DAN program for individual DAN contributors and the Associates of DAN program for businesses. This core group of donors continue to play a major role in funding DAN research and safety initiatives. For more information or to donate, please visit DAN.org/DANCares. All contributions are tax deductible and benefit the DAN Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, Tax ID # 56-1696689.
