I will be traveling to the DR in Feb and will be staying in Puerto Plata. I was wondering if anyone would recommend a specific dive operation and if there is anymore word on the Malaria and somach viruses that some US, Europeans, and Canadians are getting. Thanks!

Best of luck! I just got back from the DR, stayed at Sun Village resort in Puerta Plata. The diving is all at Sosua since that area is some what sheltered from the wind but was very disapointing. Our dive boat was just an open 18' fishing boat, no ladder, very poor vis, etc. Plus! Both my wife and I got sick, as did a third of the people we talked to! And for every person who was sick (vomiting & diarhea) there was an equal number who did not "feel well" - translation, able to keep from vomiting. When my wife (a nurse) alerted hotel management of a potential health problem, they made it quite clear they did not want to hear about it! We have been to the DR several times but will not return no matter how cheap it seems.
