Hello all... This May, I will be attending a wedding at Gran Bahia Principe, Punta Cana. I am still deciding whether or not to bring my dive gear. I have already had a souther destination dive trip (cozumel) this year. Also, at this time of year, i am well into my diving season here in Ontario. Everyone that I have talked to has told me that diving at this location isn't all that great. Can anyone else offer me any advice on this?

Well it depends for how long you are going. If it's only for one week, I am pretty sure you will be busy with all the wedding activities, so maybe you can rent the equipment for one day and do a dive or two. But as many divers have said on SB diving in Punta Cana area is so so.

Diving isn't that good in Punta Cana. Not a lot of marine life, coral is in a very bad shape... Doesn't really worth it. However, if you are willing to take a one day excursion, you should try diving at Catalina island. It's a 2hrs drive to the south part of the Island. There, you will take a boat to the Island. This is a great place with much better diving. Then again, it DOESN'T compare with Coz...

I loved the Dominican, I stayed at the resort right beside the bahia grand Principe at the Majestic Colonial. In front of your resort is the wreck of the Astron sticking well out of the water. I am fairly new to scuba as that is were I recieved my O.W. certification in 07. However I am either very lucky or just bias because on March 1st. the humpbacks had come in, we were able to see baracuda, nurse sharks, moray eel and the D.M. after 5000 dives was privaged enough to dive with a whale shark the day before, so I guess it's your call. I don't make it to the carribean that often.

These are exciting times, I can't wait to see what the future holds!!!
100 percent of the people who don't play the lottery never win!!!

Hi,
I have worked almost eight years in Punta Cana Bavaro and dove along the whole coastline.
It is not the most exiting diving area but I saw nice stuff.
Under the given circumstances (attending a wedding) experience at least some diving, better one dive then no dive!!

Nice Dives

Robert
