Caribbean Journal has had some interesting articles on LIAT. Like this one:

Op-Ed: How to Fix LIAT

From my limited understanding its owned by 3 different Caribbean gov'ts each with its own agenda and complete lack of focus.

Funny enough Dominica was highlighted by Caribbean Journal in it's email newsletters. Got me interested but more research is needed.

BTW I did a dummy booking Toronto-Dominica and found they (this Nov anyway) are running brand new rather large (IMO) French made ATR72's.

Getting there: Typical, effortless landing at Dominica's Melville Hall International Airport. The Airport's tower and structures are on the right, between the landing strip/takeoff strip and the river.

You have a great trip, I have heard that bottom there and views are amazing, don't forget to take pictures.

Getting there and back aside, Dominica is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever experienced. The government showed great forethought in establishing the parks and land use restrictions there. There are 365 rivers and I was told that all are potable. The huge pipes that funnel water from above Trafalgar Falls down to the power plant and then into drinking water system is a nice bit of engineering. There are 14 trails that run south to north. I didn't get the chance to walk most of the trails but I loved the section near Cabrits National Park. I'm amazed with the cannon that was dragged all the way up to the top of the hill.

I was very disappointed with the diving there, however. That's been addressed and argued in previous threads. My advice is to dive near Roseau and not near Portsmouth.

I agree with all above except I very much enjoyed the diving in the south though I did think the diving in the north was just so so. Speaking of drinking water on our hike to the Boiling Lake (12 miles round trip with about 2,000 of elevation gain) my wife and I show up carrying 4 large bottles of water in my backpack. Our guide shows up with a single empty water bottle. My wife and I figure oh well he's just a young kid not planning ahead much. Until we get to the first stream and he fills up his water bottle while I'm the dumb one carrying the weight of 4 bottles. The rain falls in the mountains fresh each day and you are high enough that nobody nor any animals live near the water, and no pesticides are used up there so no problem at all drinking from the streams which we eventually did. What a beautiful place Dominica is, so far not spoiled by man.
