I know that the American Eagle website and the Dominca tourism website mention luggage restrictions being two bags checked luggage not over 70 pounds total, with no single bag over 50 pounds. They word them differently, but that is not a big deal.

If you have two travelers you have a total of 140 pounds of checked luggage.

Does that mean that you have to have a 50 pound bag and a 20 pound bag each.

Or can you have two 50 pound bags and one 40 pound bag between the two of you.

I am struggling to figure out why they would want you to carry four bags when three would do the same job.

Can someone with Dominica travel experience answer this for me please?

TIA

PS: I called American and talked to a person of very limited knowledge who disagreed with the 70 pound total limit, so I have little faith in the answer that I got.

Two years ago we traveled to Dominica via AA/AE through San Juan. Dominica is a "embargoed" travel destination. Those are AA's words, not mine. You are essentially correct. Two people are allowed 140 lbs total checked luggage, with no bag over 50lbs. We had three checked bags that weighed 122 lbs total. We flew AA out of Orlando and even the AA agents there were confused... Just remember, it's 140 lbs total per couple. We had two 45 lb bags and one 32 lb bag. Pack carefully, they will be weighed. :palmtree: Bob

I don't know when you are going to Dominica but be sure to take your camera. The macro is fantastic and shouldn't be missed!

Do you remember if they wanted batteries in the lights or out of the lights? We've had issues with this on several trips. Some of the airline websites say to have batteries in, but when we went through security they made us take them out. Haven't flown with American on a dive trip, so wondering how they handle it on the way to Dominica. Thanks.

They didn't ask in Orlando. On the return trip, at Melville Hall Arpt in Dominica, they told us to remove the batteries from our lights. That wasn't a problem, as we had already discarded the batteries in order to make the weight allowance for the souvenirs we had purchased to bring home.. :palmtree: Bob

Thanks Bob. On the way back from Roatan they just took our batteries. Well, they took my batteries but left my boyfriend keep his. The ones in the lights and out of the lights. Pretty irritating.
