went to this great island and had a blast. we did 8 boat dives with the Anchorage dive center. spent allmost 8 hrs underwater. this is the time of yr to go. no crowds and 2 days there was just the 2 of us on the boat. we saw alot, turtles, sea horses, frog fish, some huge yellow tail snapper, horse eye jacks, lots of reef fish and alot more that i do not know the names of. we did one shore dive out in front of the Anchorage going south and saw lots of eels. over all we had a great trip. Anchorage is at best a clean 2 star, we had a clean room with a/c fresh towels daily allways made our beds and gave us plently of extra towels for our side trips to the falls and swimming in the rivers. we were never limited on time for our dives. the surface intervals were 1 hr which allowed us plenty of time on the 2nd dive. every day we noticed the Dive Dominica heading out with full boats. glad that we choose the Anchorage dive center since there was not alot of people on the boat. the food was great, there is a small snackette just past the Evergreen hotel which set us up with some great food. As far as the LOUD BAR just beyond the Evergreen hotel it does exist and it was loud on friday and saturday nites and we were 3 hotels away. the bass was kind of loud but not to bad after a full day of diving and a sleeping pill. also did some island tours with Woody had a great time and saw the entire island. will post some pics later in the week.

Good to hear you had a great experience in Dominica. We are arriving in Dominica on Friday for two weeks, a few days diving up north, a few days in the jungle, then a week diving in the south. I hope to see all the seahorses and frogfish you saw, to date I've only seen one seahorse (Curacao) and no frogfish. We are staying at the Evergreen starting the following Friday, hoping the noise from the bar down the street is bearable. I'm taking the foam ear plugs I use when I go on 5 hour charter rides to our further out islands here in So CAL and I try to sleep in the bunks not far from the roar of the boat engine. I'll be looking forward to seeing your pics.

the bar is not to bad, but it is the loud base that gets you. i think the bar was closed by 1 am, but not totally sure. after a full day of diving we had no problem falling asleep.. who are you diving with? the sea horses were around scotts head wall drop off 1 out deep in 70ft on the wall the other was in the shallows from the moreing bouy in like 20ft of water.

We are diving with Nature Island Divers. We'll look for those sea horses.

Aquajohn, was it difficult to arrange flying into Dominica? Did you have any issues with luggage weight?

nope did it all myself threw american airlines. we live in fl so we were able to make it there and and fly home in 1 day. i would defenitally check flights before i booked the hotel. on the way home we allmost had an issue getting on the plane. it was sold out and i guess a sell out they have to bump people for weight and balance issues still not sure why, but we made it home. the flight from san jaun usually sells out early so check often and book in advance. as far as weight there is a limit of 70lbs per person. i was around 60lbs with dive gear and nothing was said. carried my ikelite housing on the plane and no problems there either.
