Last time we were in Destin I overheard on the VHF a conversation between locals concerning an event where a large bull shark killed a juvenille dolphin. The story went on that the dolphins stalked the shark until several days latter the dolphins surrounded the shark and hearded it into shallow water off the west jetty and then repeatedly rammed it until death. I have no way to know the truth of this, I heard it on the VHF and it was several local charter captains discussing the event. This would have been a May and early June time frame.

Ever hear of such deliberate actions, clearly premeditated revenge. Just curious.

Good on 'em Dolfins. Sharks think they're well 'ard going round eatin' everthin' like they own the frickin' place. 'Bout time I say. That'll learn 'em. Etc, etc.

The only thing I've heard about dolphins is that they are not brave animals, and are prone to panic.

I can't direct you to the source(s) right now, but I have read, and seen on a number of educational type programs, instances of dolphins as a group attacking an adversary. They proceed to ram tehm to the point where they perish from internal injuries.

I saw footage on last year of a Dolphin placing itself between a snorkeller and a curious shark that appeared to be coming in for a nibble.

But the poor shark....he was just being a shark. Why should the dolphins gang up on him and kill him for just being what he is.....? :D :D :D

Yeah, I wish they would kick some Stingray butt... errr... tail. I mean, Steve Irwin and all.

I am sorry, I did not mean to place human intent in a dolphins mind, I was simply requesting knowledge of events similar to the one in the OP. I seriously doubt dolphins are either brave or chicken. Animals do not operate within human parameters. I do know I had a "chicken" female collie dog when I was a little boy, very mild, docile dog, a stranger got out of his car and came up to me on my bicycle and something about him to this day scares me, the black look in his eyes frightened me, my dog, Smokie nearly took his arm off, she came out of nowhere, he got back in his green sedan and was never seen or heard of again, with her in hot pursuit. Animals are neither brave nor chicken, they react and respond to things on a level sometimes beyond human understanding.

I haven't heard anything like that with dolphins but in the Philippines, I was told that shrews are vengeful and will come back after you. True story....there was one in my kitchen making a rackett for a couple nights, so I got up and made an attempt on his life with a cowboy boot. I failed as he ducked into a crack under the sink. But half hour later as I was lying in bed, I felt a little cold thing on my arm, which was hanging half off my bed. I jumped up and turned on the light and there he was. He ran off and came back later again and did the same thing. Then I started remembering that movie "Killer Shrews" from back in the 60s where they were ganging up on people....it was a hell of a night....
