If you approach it from Halibut Point, it gets surprisingly deep very quickly, with a very impressive pile-up of stone slabs -- looks kind of like a ruined castle. I got down to 51' at one point, and there are deeper parts yet. I definitely want to explore it again some day -- perhaps with enriched air, because that terrain is very conducive to "sawtooth" profile.

Not a good lobstering spot, though -- with a lot of caves meters deep and too narrow for a diver to fit, the bugs have very easy escape routes.

I dive it all the time and consider it part of Folly. Tremendous boulders in the area and you can indeed get some good depth. There are a number of northern red anemones there and I've found torpedo rays on occassion. Most divers head to the wall on the west side of Folly when in actuality the best diving is out on those boulders way out on the east side. It's a hike to get there and I usually only hit it at low tide and even then only for a short while.

how do i get to this area???
is the 51' depth relitively close to sure? i have been wanting to try some freediving there, but to lazy to swim out to the point.
If you walk into folly cove, is it on your left or you right?
please tell me asap! as im going there sunday morning for snorkeling

edit:

now that i read the above post, my next question is.. is it when u walk around the big boulders where people ussually swim and then it opens up to another small little area?

heres a little map i made.. hand drawn in paint.. quick and to the point :10:

so tell me from my map where i would find this..

It's on the right of Folly.

Not really deep around that little cove (20-30 feet). You need to go further up (using your map's perspective) to get to the deeper part with drop offs. It is equally far from folly or halibut point, right on the corner. It's a long swim.

The best part, in my opinion, is between that little cove and that deep area. Plus, if you're snorkeling, you don't really need 51 feet, right?

Just wondering...My freediving record is no more than 18 feet, how deep can other people get with just a snorkel?

about 55' thats why i wana go to some deep areas to practice

I believe that dive spot is called Halibut Shores. It's between Folly Cove and Halibut Point. There's a short walk to the site. Haven't been there yet but I hear it's a much shorter walk than Halibut Point which on a hot day just about killed me even with a wheelbarrow to haul gear !!!!!!!

Not sure I see the area where you folks are talking about. Can you show me on one of these maps? I am assuming the numbers are in feet and dont see any small "coves" that get to 50+ft. Of course it may not be "mapped".

I think I see where we were. Look at the first thumbnail. We entered water about where you see "9" after the words "Folly Cove". The "tiny cove" is immediately to the southeast, and I think we reached 50' about at the letter O in "Cove".

BTW, where is this map from?
